GET INVOLVED!

By joining one of our committees you will be helping your Chamber better serve the Halton Hills business community.  The benefits to you and your business are numerous – you learn new skills, get to meet other local business owners and receive exposure for your company.  As well, many of our committee members go on to serve on our Board of Directors and Executive – giving even more credibility to your business.

Please review the structure and mandates of our committees, indicate your preference and return this form to the Chamber of Commerce office.  To learn more about a committee, contact Sue at the Chamber 905-877-7119.

Economic Development and Planning: Within the committee's mandate to develop and promote an economic development strategy considering those of the Town of Halton Hills and the Regional Municipality of Halton, is also an interest in the Sustainable Halton Plan to provide input on behalf of Chamber of Commerce members. The Chamber of Commerce is interested in the future direction of the Town when it comes to employment lands and commercial development, along with any policy statements or draft bylaws that may impact present and future businesses. The committee will monitor the progress of the Sustainable Halton Plan and provide input whenever opportunity arises, while reporting to the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and informing residents and businesses of Halton Hills about positions taken by the Chamber. The Committee plans on working closely with the Economic Development Office, Mayor’s office, Planning and Development, Engineering, Public Works and Building Services, and the office of the Chief Administrative Officer. Members include Helen MacCormack (Chair), Grant Lee, Jamie Schumacker,  Mark McIntyre, Mary Ann Stockdale, Denise Dilbey, Steven Prestipino, Doug Penrice and Joe Valvasori. We welcome members with an interest in economic development and planning to join the committee. The meeting schedule is Nov 25/08, Jan 23/09, Mar 24/09, May 26/09 and July 28/09 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., or at the call of the Chair. Junior Achievement: The Junior Achievement mission is to 'educate and inspire the youth of our community to value free enterprise, understand business and economics and develop entrepreneurial and leadership skills'.

Our committee is responsible for:

 

1) The continued delivery of JA in-school and after-school programs to the youth in the Halton Hills community,

2) Providing business educational programs to the future business leaders,

3) Facilitating the sharing of knowledge between the business leaders of today and the business leaders of tomorrow and

4) Promoting entrepreneurship in our community through JA programs

 

We are currently seeking to fill 3 positions on the Junior Achievement committee. Each committee member takes on a specific role to ensure that we effectively and efficiently achieve our goals. The committee meets on a Wednesday evening from 6:30pm to 8:00pm once every 6 weeks (about 9 meetings per year). Additional work required to fulfil the role that you take on with the committee may require a commitment of an additional 1 - 2 hours per month.

Membership Services: This is the planning committee for many of the Chamber events including: Business after Hours, Lunch & Learn Seminars, Chamber Golf Day and Business Achievement Awards. The Membership Services Committee meets once a month, on the first Thursday from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM. The committee is in need of 3 or 4 persons interested in working on all aspects on planning these exciting events. If you believe Halton Hills is the best place to work, play shop and live then help us promote our local businesses and support our community.

Women in Business: The Halton Hills Women In Business Committee has several vacancies and is looking for women interested in serving on the Committee for a two year term. The Committee's purpose is to plan and host events which create a mutually beneficial social environment for women in business, which provide opportunities for women to network, generate new business, advertise, share and support business ideas, and which provide the opportunity for women to find or be a mentor. The Committee meets the Tuesday after the first Wednesday of the month from 9:00 am to 10:30 am in the Chamber boardroom to plan events. In addition, the Committee members usually attend the events we plan including the regular luncheons we arrange which are held the first Wednesday of the month from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Ares Restaurant from September to July.

Newsletter Committee: The BusinessLink Committee has two vacancies and is looking for individuals interested in serving on the Committee for a two-year term. The Committee consists of six members and is responsible for all aspects of publishing the Chambers’ quarterly BusinessLink publication, including writing, editing and layout. The Committee generally meets for once a week in the Chamber boardroom on mutually agreed days between 2:00 and 3:00 for six consecutive weeks each quarter prior to putting the publication out for printing. Desirable skills are the ability to write and /or edit, take photographs, conduct interviews, and/or familiarity with the whole publishing process.

Marketing and Communications Committee: The committee's mandate is to develop and implement a multi-year marketing and communications plan and budget for the Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce. The plan will be an extension of business and corporate strategic plans of the Chamber of Commerce. The marketing plan will have a long-term vision with short term tactics to implement its annual goal and objectives. Within the plan will be an integrated marketing communications plan focused on local, regional and provincial media opportunities to implement the brand and special projects of the Chamber of Commerce. The committee will set an annual budget to be approved by the Board of Directors. The Committee will work with existing committees, task groups and the Board to consolidate existing projects and budgets, and to collaborate on projects of mutual interest.

 

Members currently include Grant Lee (Committee Chair), Sue Walker (HHCOC Manager), Jamie Schumacker (President), Glen MacDonald (Georgetown Chev.), Suzanne Frick (Design Alpha Creative Corp), Ross McDuff (On Call Computer Technicians), Diane Rabenda (Baskets and Botanicals) and K.C. Carruthers (Georgetown Hospital Foundation). We welcome members with an interest in marketing and communications to join the committee. The meeting schedule is Oct. 30/08, Jan. 30/09, Mar. 27/09, May 29/09, and July 31/09 from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m., or at the call of the Chair. Most business will be conducted via email.
